A Glimmer of Hope in Okaldhunga: More Than Just Bags

At the heart of Okaldhunga, on May 20th and 21st, 2025, something truly heartwarming took place. Lily Leaves Social Enterprises reached out to the eager young minds at Saraswoti Adharbhoot Vidyalaya and Seti Devi Adharbhoot Dadagaun Schools, handing out beautifully stitched bags to students from Class 1 to 3. But these weren’t just any school supplies; they were bright tokens of hope, each bag telling its own tale of empowerment and care.

Picture the small hands that once gripped tattered jute sacks or flimsy plastic bags, their valuable books and notebooks exposed to the weather, often arriving at school damaged or lost. For many families, simply being able to buy a basic school bag felt like an additional burden in their already challenging lives. Yet this initiative has brought immense relief. Now, children can safely carry their study materials a small step that lightens financial worries and allows them to focus on what really matters: learning.

What makes these bags even more touching is the love stitched into each one. They were lovingly made by women through our women's empowerment program. With each bag given to a child in Okaldhunga, there’s a powerful story of a woman’s journey towards independence and dignity, showcasing her talent and determination. It serves as a wonderful reminder that when we uplift one another, we all thrive together.

The emotional core of this distribution truly shone through with the participation of our very own Taramaya Tamang. Taramaya, a committed member of the Lily Leaves team, once walked the same halls as these students. Starting as a trainee, she persevered with our support, pursuing her education and blossoming into a skilled trainer at Lily Leaves. It was a deeply personal and proud moment for Taramaya to return to the very schools where her journey began, now helping to create similar opportunities for others.
